There are many picturesque towns along the Great Ocean Road it’s hard to choose where to stay. Depending on how many days you have to visit this beautiful area will depend on where you choose to stay on the Great Ocean Road.
If you have a few days up your sleeve, you may wish to spend a night in Torquay at the start of your adventure along the Great Ocean Road. Torquay is a big surf town with plenty of accommodation options from luxury resorts such as RACV Resort and Peppers to smaller B&B or Airbnb options.
Lorne is one of the bigger towns along the Great Ocean Road with plenty of accommodation and dining options.
Make sure you visit Bottle of Milk for breakfast, lunch or dinner. You can’t go wrong and no visit to Lorne is complete without a stop here.

Apollo Bay is located a little further on and closer to the 12 Apostles. Here too are many accommodation and dining options. We choose to stay at the Best Western which was ideally located – close to the beach and main street where the many restaurants and cafes are.
Fresh fish is caught daily as Apollo Bay is home to a working harbour. The co-op is located slightly out of town at the harbour and offers fish & chips takeaway or dine sitting out overlooking the beach and harbour.
If you are looking to stay somewhere a little different, not too far from Apollo Bay is the Cape Otway Lightstation. Here you pretend to be a lightkeeper for the night and stay in the lightkeepers cottage. An experience not to be missed!

Surprisingly this was one of my favourite towns. The smaller of them all and at the end of the day trippers route, there are still quite a few dining and accommodation options. We only spent one night but it would have been perfect to have two.
We choose to stay at the Loch Ard Motor Inn which offered views over the beach. Across the road is 12 rocks cafe and bar which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu for lunch was limited but the food was surprisingly good.
The Twelve Apostles are located a short 15 min drive for Port Campbell which makes it the perfect place to base yourself.
