Summer is my favourite time to travel. The weather is warm and the sea is inviting. It is also that time of year where my Instagram is filled with photos of friends on vacation enjoying the summer sunshine. Here are the best places to visit this summer – the European Summer.
Best places to visit this summer
Looking for some cooler weather and a place to hit the slopes look no further than New Zealand. New Zealand’s south island is the perfect place to enjoy beautiful scenery or visit the ski resorts. Queenstown is one of the most popular towns on the south island. It is situated lakeside and within easy reach of three different ski fields. Queenstown can be reached by via a domestic flight from Auckland or a direct flight from Sydney.
Mongolia is one of the most underrated countries I have visited. Summer is the best time to visit Mongolia when the weather is warm. Be sure to leave behind the city of Ulan Bataar and spend a few days visiting Teralj National Park. The area is perfect for short hikes and is particularly well know for mountain bike riding. The time to visit Mongolia is now before the rest of the world discovers this hidden gem.
Summer is the perfect time to visit Iceland with endless days and midnight sun. The weather at this time is generally better and warmer with the land being green and lush. The roads are open as the snow has melted away. This is the perfect chance to visit the highlands which can only be accessed during the summer months.
If Africa is on your must visit list, look no further than Botswana. The summer months are the best time to visit the main parks of Botswana (Okavango, Chobe & Moremi). During these months, it is winter so the weather is cooler and the Okavango Delta is flooded meaning excellent wildlife viewing.
Russia in winter can be extremely cold however the summers rarely get over rarely get over 30 degrees. These temperatures are excellent for sightseeing. Moscow and St Petersburg are the big draw to Russia however do consider venturing out of the main cities. Lake Baikal (on the Tran-Siberian train route) was the highlight of my recent trip to Russia.
Canada is largely known as a winter destinations for its fairytale like snow covered castles and excellent snow conditions for winter sports. However, summers in Canada are superb and should be experienced. Hiking is very popular as are mountain biking, kayaking and camping which can be done right across the country during the warmer months. Summer is also the best time of year if you are looking to discover the country by train as the longer days mean more scenic viewing. If you are interested in wildlife – summer is the best time to see the black bear in its natural environment.
Albania is starting to get noticed in the tourism world and word is out what a remarkable destination this country is. Albania offers stunning scenery with its mountain peaks, a thriving capital city, plenty of history and a coastline and beaches that will challenge any other beach in the world. Albania is still very cheap by European standards to travel to however this will not last long. Albania is a great alternative to places such as Croatia, Italy or even Greece which are considerably more expensive to visit.
